You'll have a food-friendly off-dry Riesling from Washington State and an easy-to-pour, easy-to-love, gold medal Pinot from California. Green Darner is made with Riesling from Washington's Columbia Valley, where irrigation gives growers more control over grape development than is possible in other U.S. wine regions. This leads to less vintage variation and consistently high-quality results, which you'll taste immediately in its jut-barely-sweet, pear and apple palate. Purple Owl Pinot Noir is named for the purple owl's clover that blankets some of California's vineyards. The plant bears shaggy, pink-ish purple clusters of flowers that resemble clover, with thin leaves tipped with the same color, making them look like a paintbrush. Tasting the wine brings it all full circle: Though bright red and black fruit dominate the palate, there is a distinct floral note that lingers. Tasting Notes: Green Darner Riesling: This is an off-dry, light-bodied white. It offers lime leaf and jasmine aromas followed by a palate of Bartlett pear, underripe pineapple and green apple. Purple Owl Pinot Noir: This is a medium-bodied red that offers ripe aromas of red berries, earthy spice and hints of cola. The palate offers fresh raspberry and red cherry notes framed by a floral character.
