This specimen is a particularly large male. Native to the African rainforest, this social, diurnal animal weighs up to 120 lbs and grows to 5 1/2 feet. A robust and lively ape, the Chimpanzee is capable of insight, and has the ability to create and use tools. Chimpanzees have the most human-like features of the great apes. The chimp diverged from us about 6 million years ago and is thought to be humans' closest living relative, sharing 98% of our DNA.
