Wattstax

Wattstax

Brand Name: Wolper Pictures
Item#/SKU: WX
This is a one night only opportunity to see one of the most legendary and rarely seen of concert films.

Wattstax was the Woodstock of black America; an all-black benefit concert organised by Stax Records and held in 1972 to commemorate the 1965 Watts riots.

The Stax label was one of the greats in American soul, funk and R&B housing a stable of such greats as Isaac Hayes and Booker T & the MG's.

Featuring performances from some of the finest black singers of the day the concert is interspersed with candid interviews with residents of Watts discussing racial issues, as well as some hilarious monologues by Richard Pryor.

This film is a resonant and evocative historical time capsule chronicling the connection between music, black culture and the emerging black consciousness.

A must see.
