Normally found further north, this stand of balsam fir and white spruce is part of the Baileys Harbor Boreal Forest and Wetlands State Natural Area in Door County, WI. Buffered by Green Bay to the west and Lake Michigan to the east, this peninsula provides a southern refuge for several plant communities including the boreal forest usually found further north. Here, non-native True Forget-me-nots serve as a welcome mat, drawing our attention to the deep woods beyond. From 4x5 transparency.
